Story

STEEL | 2019 |  Various dimenisons, 8 blocks. 50kg - 585kg/ each block

The pinecone is both complicated and simple. They embodies the spirit of the forest. It is a symbol of power and regeneration. I draw inspiration from this shape and its beautiful geometric form as well as from the fact that it is a future pine tree’s potential lineage. Each pinecone represents a potential of several hundred future trees. This positions the pinecone as a symbol of renewal.

Every child who has walked in a pine forest has picked up a pinecone and marveled at is simple and a complicated beauty. Art in the Forest re-creates that sense of wonder and awe through the monumental sculptural installations perfectly situated in the forest setting. I seek to continue that childlike sense of wonder with these oversized renderings of pinecones. (if these are the seeds – imagine the trees!!)

Heavily influenced by the natural world, my sculptures highlight a hope for the future and place an importance on exploring and understanding our environment…
